About me
Plants are part of who I am. I grew up playing in the greenhouses surrounded by unusual plants, as my parents ran a professional nursery in Cornwall. My Dad used to pay me 1p for every plant pot that I washed. I'm still at my happiest up to my elbows in compost.
After a first career as a project manager, running training and employment projects in the charity sector, I decided to retrain. With both horticultural qualifications and a diploma in garden design, I am passionate about the joy that gardens, and tending them, can bring into our everyday lives. I believe that good garden design can transform an outdoor space of any size into a place you can enjoy.
Sustainable Garden Design
My particular interest is in sustainable garden design. I am always mindful of the environmental footprint of the materials, process and plants I use. I consider wildlife and biodiversity from the very start of the process and will always recommend plants which attract pollinators.
Plants are sourced from trade nurseries in Kent wherever possible. My preferred nurseries grow their plants in peat free compost, however for smaller orders I choose the most local nursery. Plastic pots are donated to a project that can reuse them and compost bags are either reused or recycled. All compost that I specify is peat free and chippings FSC certified.
As a Pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers I abide by their Code of Professional conduct. I carry Public liability and Professional Indemnity insurance. I use the JCLI Homeowner Consultancy Agreement contracts for domestic projects.
